Secondary school students are familiar with Singapore’s economic and political histories, as these topics are amply covered in their textbooks. The social and cultural aspects? Not so much. That was why our tour of the exhibition Singapore 1960 was the perfect opportunity to expose them to the social and cultural milieu of the 1960s. Making good use of the exhibition’s design, ambience and artefacts, we provided a colourful, multi-sensory experience for the students, who discovered the three popular amusement-entertainment “worlds” and the vibrant movie and fashion scenes.
