From spearheading the research process to curating the nitty gritty details of an exhibit, an experience strategist possesses a nimble mind and a strong attention to detail. In this blogpost, HOL’s Chief Experience Officer shares about what it really means to be an Experience Strategist today:
1) WHAT IS AN EXPERIENCE STRATEGIST?
An Experience Strategist is someone who represents the user in the creative process. I identify opportunities for user engagement, so that they can build a deeper emotional attachment with the experience.
2) SO WHAT EXACTLY IS IT THAT YOU DO AT HOL?
To build a strong emotional attachment with the user, the most important task is to gain a strong understanding of the users to make them click.
Using the insights from my detailed research, I work closely with product development, design and backend development team to deliver the experience. I also manage our clients to ensure that they are apprised of all the developments while taking in their input. To be able to bring forth the most groundbreaking experience, I also need to have a good pulse on the latest trends and developments.
3) WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT?
My favourite project is Singapore’s Economic Miracle Exhibition which was conceptualised, curated, designed and implemented to celebrate Singapore’s 50 years of independence. I led the team to curate and provide the exhibition’s design direction. Through personal stories as well as featuring iconic brands and companies, we successfully brought back a feeling of nostalgia and let audiences know that Singapore’s success was no accident –- it arose from hard work, foresight, determination and the courage to dream. Over 100,000 visited this travelling exhibition, and many shared that they felt proud to be Singaporean after viewing it.
4) WHAT ARE THE TOP QUALITIES OF A GOOD EXPERIENCE STRATEGIST?
Empathy, a keen sense of curiosity, a sharp eye for details and the ability to connect the dots.
